What are Dental X-Rays?
Dental x-rays are helpful tools that are often used in conjunction with your dental care and treatment. They allow us to see underlying issues that could go unnoticed during a typical dental exam. We use state-of-the-art technology to deliver quality results, using minimal amounts of radiation. X-rays are suitable for most patients, no matter their age.
Why would Dental X-Rays be needed?
A dental exam allows us to see only the surface of your teeth and gums. There are many dental problems and conditions that can only be seen by looking below the surface with a dental x-ray. The x-ray gives us a clear view of the roots of your teeth and helps expose impacted teeth, infections, and abscesses that could be a problem. Our x-rays also are an important tool for monitoring the growth and development of your child’s teeth.
When will Dental X-Rays be taken?
You can expect dental x-rays to be taken at the majority of your appointments. Since we use a only small amount of radiation to take these images, they’re safe for all members of your family. You can expect to have x-rays taken during, before, or after:
What can be expected during the Dental X-Ray process?
First, our dental team member will drape a lead apron over your body to help reduce radiation exposure. Next, a tiny device is positioned in the mouth, which will help the x-ray machine capture its image. The x-ray machine itself is directed at this device before the image is taken. Once the image is taken, the device moved to another area of the mouth. This process is repeated until all of the necessary x-rays are complete. The process to take x-rays is quick and easy, and is done as comfortably as possible.
